Watch Dog
Privacy Policy
Effective August 12, 2026
Who we are
Watch Dog is operated by Long Hall ("we", "us"). You can reach us at watchdog@longhall.app.
What we collect and why
Location — while a drive is active only
When you start a session, Watch Dog uses your location (with "While Using the App" permission) to calculate distance, speed, and whether you're driving during nighttime hours. The raw GPS point stream is processed on your device in real time and is never saved or transmitted. What we keep is the summary of each drive: duration, distance, night duration, and average/maximum speed. Watch Dog does not track your location in the background or when no session is running.
Driving logs and driver profiles
You enter the driver's name, permit date, state, and optional school details, and the app records each drive's summary. This is stored on your device. If you sign in (below), it is also stored in our cloud so your hours survive reinstalling the app or switching phones.
Account information (optional)
Creating an account is optional and used only to back up and restore your hours. We collect your email address and a password, handled by our authentication provider. If you never sign in, your data stays only on your device.
Purchases
If you buy the one-time ad-free upgrade, the purchase is processed by Apple. We use a purchase-management provider to verify entitlement; it receives the transaction and an app-assigned user identifier, not your payment details. We never see your card information.
Advertising
Unless you purchase the ad-free upgrade, Watch Dog shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device and usage identifiers to serve and measure ads, subject to Google's policies. Ads are never shown while a drive is in progress.
School leaderboard (opt-in)
If you turn on the leaderboard, we share only a chosen handle and your total/night hours and miles, grouped by school. We never share your location or your real name unless you type it as your handle. It is off by default and can be turned off at any time.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only with service providers that make the app work:
- Supabase — cloud database and authentication (account email, driver profiles, and drive summaries), only if you sign in.
- Apple — App Store purchases and delivery.
- RevenueCat — verifies your ad-free purchase.
- Google AdMob — serves ads, unless you've purchased the ad-free upgrade.
Data retention
On-device data stays until you delete a drive, delete a driver, or delete the app. If you have an account, your synced summaries remain until you ask us to delete them. Email watchdog@longhall.app to request deletion of your account and cloud data.
Children's privacy
Watch Dog is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian to record a teen driver's hours. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Use the app fully offline — never sign in, and nothing leaves your device.
- Revoke location permission in iOS Settings (drives can't be measured without it).
- Remove ads with the one-time upgrade.
- Request access to or deletion of your cloud data by emailing us.
Security
Cloud data is protected by per-account access rules so you can only see your own drivers and drives. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Changes
We'll update this page if our practices change and revise the effective date above.
